At the International Symposium on Water Pollution Prevention and Control in Veneto, Italy and China, held at the Italy Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo on the 14th, Zhang Yufei, Deputy Director General of the Pollution Control Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, stated that China will continue to strengthen international cooperation in the field of water pollution control.
Zhang Yufei said that there is still a long way to go to truly achieve the goal of allowing rivers, lakes, and seas to rest and rejuvenate and restore their vitality. The Chinese government not only needs to rely on its own efforts, but also needs to strengthen international cooperation, learn from developed countries with advanced management concepts and mature environmental technologies, and continue to deepen and expand cooperation in the field of water pollution control. "We hope that Italy can continue to support China in the coordinated development of environment and economy and water ecological construction, and promote China's water pollution control work towards building a healthy ecosystem."
According to reports, since 2000, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea have jointly launched a cooperation plan in the field of global environment. So far, 85 projects implemented have involved environmental monitoring and management, protection and preservation of natural resources, management of water resources, and development of renewable energy.
Gao Bo, Director General of the International Cooperation and Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, also introduced at the meeting that the Ministry of Water Resources has carried out cooperation in the field of water pollution control with several major countries in the world, striving to learn from and draw on advanced foreign technologies and experiences. In 2005, the Ministry of Water Resources and the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, successfully carried out the South-to-North Water Diversion Water Resources Sustainable Integrated Management Project, and achieved fruitful results; the North China Plain Groundwater Management Project is also progressing smoothly.
Experts from both China and Italy attending the symposium introduced the experiences of both sides in water pollution control cooperation based on specific cases such as "Venice Lagoon Management" and "Dongting Lake Eutrophication Control".
